Since 2015, Sakimay First Nations Chief and Council have been using a mandate system, than the previous approach of portfolios. Through this system, C&C are better able to assist in planning for the future development of the community, administration and businesses. Mandates are building capacity outside the confines of the funding agreements with the Crown.
Under this mandate governance approach, Chief and Council have also been incorporating Indigenous principles and practices in various processes and projects. It is hoped that through the communities growth, these principles and practices will continue to inform the planning and development procedures of the Council, programs and services, business endeavours and community.
